Give Your Homestead a Place to Be Found
You don’t need a big farm, a fancy website, or hundreds of birds to join The Breeder Registry.
If you’re intentionally breeding poultry in Nova Scotia, the Registry gives you a dedicated place to tell potential customers who you are, what you raise, and what they can expect when buying from you.
And it’s completely free.
More Than a Name on a List
Facebook is great for sharing hatch updates, new arrivals, photos, and everything happening around your homestead. Finding important information six months later? Not so much.
Your Breeder Registry profile gives you one permanent place to bring the important stuff together. Depending on what applies to your breeding program, you can share things like:
• Your homestead, farm, or breeding name.
• Your location.
• The poultry species and breeds you raise.
• Information about your breeding program and practices.
• What you typically offer.
• Your policies and other information you want customers to know.
• Photos of your birds and homestead.
• Your website and social media pages.
• A way for potential customers to contact you without displaying your email address publicly.
Your profile doesn’t replace your Facebook page or website if you have one. It gives potential customers an easier place to find the information they need, then lets you point them wherever you’d like them to go next.
You Don’t Need to Have Birds Available Today
The Breeder Registry isn’t a classifieds site. Your profile represents what you raise, not just what happens to be available this week.
Keepers can find you by the species and breeds you work with, learn about your breeding program, and see how you prefer to handle availability and inquiries. That means your profile can keep helping people discover you between hatches, outside your breeding season, or when everything you currently have is already spoken for.
When you do have availability information to share, you can update your profile. When you don’t, your profile can simply keep doing its other job: helping Nova Scotia poultry keepers learn who you are and what you raise.
Small Breeders Belong Here Too
The Breeder Registry isn’t just for large breeding operations. Some of Nova Scotia’s poultry breeders maintain large flocks and offer birds throughout the season. Others carefully work with one or two breeds and only hatch a few times a year.
Both belong here.
You don’t need to be a registered business or call your property a farm. What matters is that you’re intentionally breeding poultry and want potential buyers to be able to learn more about you.
You’re in Control of Your Profile
Things change. Breeding plans change. Sometimes you just need everyone to stop asking whether you have chicks for five minutes.
Update Anytime
Change your profile whenever your information changes.
Take a Break
Mark yourself as on vacation when you’re unavailable.
Control Visibility
Turn your public profile on or off.
Choose Who Can Contact You
Enable or disable the Registry contact form.
Your personal email address isn’t displayed publicly. When contact is enabled, visitors use the Contact Breeder form instead.
Identity Confirmed
Breeders can have their identity confirmed by The Breeder Registry and receive an Identity Confirmed badge on their profile. The badge simply tells visitors that I’ve confirmed the identity of the person operating the profile.
It isn’t an inspection or certification of your birds, property, breeding program, husbandry, or business practices, and it doesn’t imply endorsement by The Breeder Registry.
It’s one more piece of information that can help buyers feel comfortable knowing that who they’re communicating with isn’t one of the scammers hanging out on Facebook “selling” birds that don’t exist and running off with people’s money.
Reviews
Customers can leave reviews about genuine purchases they’ve made from breeders listed on the Registry.
Breeders can’t remove reviews from their own profiles, but reviews aren’t a free-for-all either. The Registry has rules designed to keep them relevant, useful, and fair to both buyers and breeders. Reviews containing things like personal attacks, private information, advertising, retaliation, or unsupported accusations may be reported for moderation.
A Better Starting Point for Conversations
A good breeder profile can answer a lot of questions before someone ever sends you a message. That means less time repeatedly explaining which breeds you raise, where you’re located, whether you offer hatching eggs, how pickup works, what your policies are, and all the other practical details keepers need before buying.
The Registry’s Poultry Keeper Guides help from the other direction. They’re there to help keepers understand what questions are worth asking, what breeders can reasonably be expected to guarantee, what things like straight run and shipped hatching eggs actually mean, and what responsibilities belong to them once birds leave your care.
The guides are free for anyone to use or share, including breeders. If one would help answer a keeper’s questions and save you some typing, you’re more than welcome to send it to them.
The goal isn’t just more inquiries, it’s better-informed ones.
What Does It Cost?
$0
Absolutely nothing. Honestly.
Creating a breeder profile is free. Keeping it there is free. Visitors don’t pay to search the directory or contact you.
The Breeder Registry exists to make Nova Scotia’s poultry breeders easier to find and to give buyers better information when deciding where to purchase their birds. Charging breeders for visibility would work against that goal.
No paid rankings. No sponsored breeder spots. No pay to play.
Directory results are randomized rather than ranking breeders according to payment or popularity, giving every breeder an equal opportunity to be discovered. If advertising is added to The Breeder Registry in the future, purchasing an ad will never improve a breeder’s position in the directory or search results.
